Lots of flavors to choose from for U.S. Rep

The 52nd congressional district is up for grabs.
Well, not exactly. There are 11 candidates (5 Republicans and 4 Democrats) on the ballot to become the U.S. Representative for San Diego's East County area, but below is some research on the people I believe have the best chance.

Vickie Butcher- Democrat from La Mesa- wants universal health care, a withdrawal from Iraq and wants clean, renewable energy.
Duncan Hunter- a Republican from La Mesa- he's currently in office right now as a U.S. Rep. He's a Vietnam vet and has had a strong hand in building the border fence to stop illegal immigration from Mexico, providing tax relief and supports the war in Iraq.
Mike Lumpkin- Democrat from Jamul- He's against the war in Iraq, having fiscal restraint and orderly, legal immigration.

My personal favorite? Vickie Butcher. It could be because when I met her, her smile was so warm and sincere that it made Nancy Pelosi look like Hillary Clinton. Or it could be that she was out in the rain on Martin Luther King Day (along with me)- celebrating the civil rights movement, King's brave ambition and acknowledgment of what's important even though the weather wasn't San Diego's best. And it could be that she's a female Democrat who used to be a teacher and who is comfortably liberal - just like me.

Please remember to register to vote! Or, if you're not sure if you're registered, check!

Dear Friends-
I have worked in my share of Congressional races over time, but I have yet to have seen a candidate better qualified to serve as a member of Congress than Vickie Butcher.

She has lived in, and been politically active in, East County for 27 years, she has been a leader there in major non-profit organizations, like Rotary, World Affairs Council, and the Medical Auxiliary, She has been a businesswoman, a teacher, and has served as Executive Director of an important international organization.

All in all her background gives her the breadth of knowledge and judgment on most of the major issues of the day that concern people in the 52nd C.D., like job development, education, housing, , etc.

She comes from a military family, her husband was a doctor in Vietnam, and her close family relatives were in each of the other branches of service. She understands the basic military question of the day which is how to responsibly, and safely, bring our troops home from Iraq, while we still utilize multi-national forces to continue to undergird the Iraqi troops themselves.

With a large percentage of the population of East County without adequate medical insurance, her experience in the medical area enables her to analyze the problem, and propose legislation for solving it, that none of her opponents could come close to.

Yes, here we have an experienced and passionate champion of the needs of the people of the 52nd District. This cannot be said of the others in this race. Let's put her in office.
